cad.connect_parts

act imperative

Atomically connect two live parts through measured ports. Resolves both world frames, moves only the target body into contact, creates paired interface geometry, persists the assembly graph edge, and rolls back the entire call if any step fails. Use this instead of mixing mate_parts with add_connector for one interface; groups are organizational and do not replace a connection.

Input schema

PropertyTypeRequiredDescription
sourcePartId string yes Exact live ID or explicit result alias (for example "$base") of the fixed/source part. Do not use prototype, last_created, or a display name.
sourcePort object yes Measured source port: {face, localPointMm?, localNormal?, localTangentUMm?}; a face string is accepted for simple planar ports.
targetPartId string yes Exact live ID or explicit result alias (for example "$lid") of the moving/target part. Do not use prototype, last_created, or a display name.
targetPort object yes Measured target port: {face, localPointMm?, localNormal?, localTangentUMm?}; a face string is accepted for simple planar ports.
connectionType string yes Atomic interface contract.
clearanceMm number no Manufacturing clearance in millimeters.
engagementMm number no Insertion/overlap engagement in millimeters.
sizeMm number no Nominal connector or shaft size in millimeters.
fit string no FDM fit class.
motion object no Optional motion constraint, for example {type:"revolute", axis:"X", limitsDeg:[0,120]}.
manufacturingProcess string no Process used to derive clearance.
