Point the on-screen transform gizmo at a part, so the PERSON can drag it by hand. Selecting an assembly (a whole door) or a single mesh (that door's handle) changes what their mouse grabs. This is a handoff: use it when you want them to position something themselves, and say so. Pass nothing to clear the selection.
