terrain_carve_tunnel
Carves a tunnel straight through a mesh terrain by sweeping a capsule between two world-space portals and subtracting it with exact CSG. This produces a genuine hole with interior walls, not a masked-out region, which is why it belongs to mesh terrain and has no heightmap equivalent. Use it for road and rail tunnels, mine adits, and the trunk passage of a cave system; branch chambers and side passages are better added with `terrain_add_csg_volume`. All distances are meters.
Input schema
| Property | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
nodeId |
string | no | Mesh terrain node ID. Omit when the scene contains exactly one mesh terrain. |
startX |
number | yes | World X of the entrance portal in meters, placed on the terrain surface |
startY |
number | yes | World Y of the entrance portal in meters |
startZ |
number | yes | World Z of the entrance portal in meters |
startNormalX |
number | no | Direction the entrance portal faces, X. Should point out of the hillside. Defaults to the direction of the other portal. |
startNormalY |
number | no | Direction the entrance portal faces, Y |
startNormalZ |
number | no | Direction the entrance portal faces, Z |
endX |
number | yes | World X of the exit portal in meters, placed on the terrain surface |
endY |
number | yes | World Y of the exit portal in meters |
endZ |
number | yes | World Z of the exit portal in meters |
endNormalX |
number | no | Direction the exit portal faces, X. Should point out of the hillside. |
endNormalY |
number | no | Direction the exit portal faces, Y |
endNormalZ |
number | no | Direction the exit portal faces, Z |
radiusMeters |
number | no | Tunnel bore radius in meters. Default 8. A single-track rail tunnel is about 4 m, a two-lane road tunnel about 6-8 m, a walkable cave passage 3-10 m. |
depthMeters |
number | no | How far each portal drives straight inward before the two ends are joined, in meters. Default is 1.75x radiusMeters. Larger values give a straighter… |
noise |
number | no | Wall roughness, 0 or more. 0 gives a machined bore, which is correct for an engineered tunnel; 1 (default) gives rock. Raise it toward 2-3 for a… |
noiseScale |
number | no | World-space wavelength of the wall roughness in meters. Default 2.6. Larger values give broad undulation instead of fine pitting. |
